Online Marketing Success Needs a Long Term Solution

Online Marketing Success Needs a Long Term Solution

by James Pruitt on 05/25/2010

I am sick and tired  of seeing people throw up a website, and expect to get rich over night. Online marketing success is a long term process. It is not a get rich quick scheme, and it is not about just making a one time sale. My grandfather used to always say, ” We make a profit off of the person that comes in and buys something. We make a living off of the people who come back time and again.” Now, he ran a grocery store, but the same is true for your website.

Give people a reason to come back

You cannot build a business on one-time sales. I see people every day building a site focused totally on solving ONE problem. One big example is the “Get your Ex Back” niche. There is a HUGE problem with this.

You are going to accomplish one of two things here. You are going to solve their problem, and they do not need you anymore, or you are not going to solve their problem, and they will not trust you anymore.

Either way, you are left in a hole.

Instead, build a site that draws people in by targeting a specific problem. Then, have more tips and information that helps with other problems related to this topic.

To follow the example above, target people who want to get their ex back. Then fill that site with articles on maintaining a long-term relationship. You solve the immediate problem, and keep them by helping them with a long-term plan.

Instead of going for the one time sale, look for other products and services that you can use to help those people. Build your website around getting people to come back.

If you run your business right, you won’t need to keep high search rankings for hundreds of competetive terms. You want to build a following of people who listen to what you say, and come back time and again.

You touched on this in your post about Patch Adams. Rather than looking at themselves in a relationship, many people seek to fix the problems with their partner. Great suggestion on not having a bunch of keywords to follow and instead to focus on content and readers.

However, I do disagree with working in the get your ex-niche. A savvy business owner will look to provide additional services that compliment their core business. I’d say build in ancillary services which cater to “keeping your ex”. I’d also ad to make sure you have a passion for writing about and dealing with peoples drama. It isn’t for me, but their are people who excel in this arena.

Having a passion and purpose is big enough reason to keep on writing and serving a niche. Sounds like you have some good reasons to keep writing in the relationship niche. Helping people is what it is all about (in my opinion). Makes it all worth while.

Exactly! Give valuable information to your readers if you want to them to come back. It’s one effective way to drive continuous traffic to your site. Remember that Content is the king. People read your blog not to click on your ads but rather to get useful information and if they like what they read, they will come back and recommend your site to their friends. It’s the new “Word of the Mouth” marketing strategy.
