Guest Posting On Blogs For Website Traffic

Guest Posting On Blogs For Website Traffic

by James Pruitt on 06/17/2010

I am always saying never to rely on one source of  website traffic. I guess some people just don’t want to listen.  I guess that is ok. That just leaves more for me go out and grab.  I am always looking for new ways to get traffic, and a few months ago, I hit upon the best way to get traffic to my sites.

Personally, I have found that I like my blogs. They give me a chance to talk directy to people and get in touch with the people interested in what I have to say. One great thing about blogging is that it opens the doorway to a wide community of people coming together to help everyone succeed.

So, a few months ago, I jumped at the chance to  get in a guest post on another blog. The boost that I got to my business was awesome. I got a lot of traffic, and was able to even get a few new clients under my belt.

One place I was introduced to is now one of my favorite places to hang out. It is a place for bloggers to gather and guest post on each others site. Since joining My Guest Blog, I have gotten several guest posts on some high traffic sites bringing me more visitors to my own site.

They put me in touch with Famous Bloggers, which I have a new guest post going up as soon as the moderator approves it. I also have been introduced to another great blog that I just found yesterday. I am working on a guest post for Stay On Search here in the next day or so.

Now, when you write a guest post, it is not the same as article marketing. You want  to use completely original content. In fact, most of the time my best work goes into the guest posts. I will spend 2-3 hours writing, editing, and crafting my guest post into a powerful article that is designed to help people, and drive some people through to my site.

you can also join a blog community like Blog Engage, where you can guest post on their blog, meet other bloggers who work in related niches, and build up relationships with possible JV partners for your future.

Who wouldn’t want that?

So, Guest posting on blogs has become my newest favorite way to get traffic. Granted, i only get a few links, and it wont drive your site up the search engines. That is unless you do a lot of guest posts. However, you can drive great traffic, and build some relationships with some smart marketers, and bloggers.

So, this brings me to the question for todays conversation. Other than Google, where do you look for traffic?  Don’t forget, every comment is entered into the drawing, so let me know where you go to find traffic for your websites.

I have noticed that when I mention my articles two or three times on twitter, my traffic increases. When I fail to mention them, it drops like a rock. Now, granted, the difference is between 50 people and 5, but it is there.

The other thing I have found helpful is contests. Not running them, as that does help but not a whole lot. No, entering them. Being in the WordCount Blogathon really helped my traffic, and being in the ComLuv/Famous Blogger contest has already helped. It also exposes me to people I would not otherwise find and I learn a lot. I join a community that, at its’ best, will pitch in and help each other grow.

Contests are hard. this i s the first time that I have run one here. However, on my other blog they help a lot. The two things with contests is one having posts that encourage comments, and two having something that is valuable to your readers. Thanks for your comment. Come back and see me again sometime.

I usually guest posts for exposure instead of traffic and backlinks. Though traffic is always there but in my case where I have posted on almost 10 blogs till now, the benefit which I got is exposure,, more twitter followers, More subscribers and yes ofcourse quality backlinks :)

Thank’s for your comment.

I agree. Commenting gives you more exposure, which in a way will bring you more traffic, and get your name known by more people.

James,

I view guest blogging as valuable to build and encourage a relationship with the blog owner with whom I’m posting and their readers. this has led to business when people contact me after reading my blog posts and researching me and deciding they want to hire me for services.
Other than Google I look for traffic by posting helpful remarks on forums of related topics in my niche service of copy marketing. I reach out to Twitter followers to be helpful. I think so many people get too focused on marketing they forget about building relationships. After all, isn’t that what it’s all about, not just making money?

Guest posting is an excellent way to get a traffic boost but unless your actual blog contains information that people want to read, watch or listen…a lot of the traffic that can come from a guest post will very quickly drop off.

I agree with you there Andrew. You have to keep people interested once they hit your site, and keep them coming back for more.

Since I did my guest post over at Famous Bloggers, I have picked up several new subscribers, clients, and some great comments on my blog. However, it isn’t about just grabbing traffic from one guest post. One great thing is that I have gotten 10 invites to guest post on other blogs. It will take me a while to get them all done, but I plan to take up every single one. It isn’t about getting one guest post, and relying on it long term. When I was posting to article directories, I would post to several, and guest posting is no different. you want to get on many different blogs, give your blog exposure to as many people as you can.
