Today, I have been working on my network of blogs, adding new posts, and trying to build them up, as I am also building links to my websites.
Now, as I am posting on these blogs, one thing that I have done for a while, and I am wondering about is the new Google update. After all, this seems to target long tail keywords, and all of my keywords are focused on the long tail.
As I am going along, I took a break, and started looking at some of my analytics on my sites. I have seen some changes in my rankings, and not all the same direction.
I see some of my pages that have been high in the rankings have fallen totally off the radar. However, other pages that have never ranked before, now show up in high positions on page 1. I am still not sure what is different. I am looking at everything, from the number of links, bounce rates, traffic flow, and importantly (I think) where the traffic is coming from.
What I am seeing, and will continue to track, is that the sites ranking highest right now, 1, have the most links and traffic coming through certain social sites, and these pages have links more on social sites than sitting in article directories.
Like I said, this is what i am seeing right now, but not sure if I am just jumping at shadows here yet. I am going to do some detailed testing, and see what works and what does not.
Anyway, let me know what your results are. perhaps if we share some info, we can figure out what has changed, and how to get back on top across the board.
leave me a comment, and tell me what you are seeing with your search rankings.

Hey James, I’m not really sure what’s going on, but most of my older pages have not had any significant changes in SERP’s.
I am in the middle of adding a lot of new content to my websites, so the newer pages move around a lot, but I was just chalking that up to the Google Dance or something.
i think it depends on how much authority you have with your site. As I analyze things more, I am seeing some trends. the ones that have already established themselves for several months and get good traffic already are not affected as much. Also, those sites have more content on them, some over 100 pages.
I think that quantity of content on your site is a huge factor in their changes. I have noticed that the ones that went up are ones that I have been building a lot of backlinks to recently.
My experience has mirrored yours James. Social traffic and quality content seem to be winning out here. Doesn’t mean I’m stopping my other related seo strategies such as blog directory submissions. Why? Because my clients stats show something different. They show the directory submission stuff is working okay (legal niche). They are in a different industry and niche than what I write in. So, I might add to look closely at the keywords and niche of the blog your doing the research for.
That could be true. For me, I find that social traffic is easier to get. i guess like everything, it depends on your niche, and going where your potential customers are.
Google constantly changes its search algorithms, sometimes drastically that it becomes a mystery to most of us. This is true today more than ever. Well in my opinion, this is what keeps all of us excited to work every morning. The challenge is there and we all know that it’s just a matter of time before we discover it.
