Building Credibility Online

Building Credibility Online

by James Pruitt on 05/24/2010

Building credibility online is critical to your success. No matter what you are doing with your website, if you do not build credibility, you will not be successful long term.

People who read what you write will begin to talk about you in one way or another. Whether this is good or bad will be determined by how well you market yourself, and how much you build trust with people.

How do you build credibility?

If you are new online, there are several things you can do to build your credibility as your website grows.

To start you need to be honest. Do not claim to be an expert if you are not. You can build authority and credibility better if you tell people what you know, and  then be honest about what you do not know.

Social networking is a great way to build your credibility. However doing it wrong can also ruin your reputation before you even get started. In order to do it correctly, take the time to set up your profile completely. Also make sure you network with other people.

Leave relevant comments on other people’s profiles, post content that you find helpfull. Do not just use social networking sites to promote your own site. Over promoting your own sites will cause you more problems than it helps.

Get your content out on other websites. Not just article directories, or free sites you build yourself. Get to know other people in your niche. Write guest posts for other blogs, and offer to build links to that post. If you can get your articles on other high profile sites, with a link back to your site, you will be able to get highly targeted traffic to your site. This creates a win-win situation for both of you. They get free content, and you get free traffic.

This can be hard to do if you are unkown or if you have already gotten a bad reputation. Keep trying and you will eventually find someone who will work with you. Joining forums within your niche is a great way to get to know people. You can usually find people like yourself running affiliate sites, or blogs. Develop a relationhsip with some of these people and you can start a content swap and help each other out.

Follow these steps and you will begin to build your online reputation quickly. within a few months you can start leapfrogging past the competition to get higher rankings, and begin making the most out of your web business.
