4 Awesome Ways to Build Blog Traffic

by James Pruitt on 09/02/2010

Learning how to build blog traffic is one of the hardest challenges that many new bloggers face. For many people, it can mean the death of an good blog.

Let’s go over a few ways that you can build blog traffic quickly, and see results fast.

Blog Commenting

Commenting on popular blogs within your niche is one of the easiest ways to get blog traffic. by engaging the community, you will be able to get other people interested in what you have to offer. Don’t spam them. Join in the conversation, and stay on topic with the comments. sometimes the comments will go off topic. Also, you don’t want to make the same comment or ask a question that has already been answered. Remember build relationships first.

Forum Posting

Time and again people fail to realize just how much you can build blog traffic by joining a forum. I have several blogs that 75% or more of my traffic comes through niche forums. When you do it right, you can get a lot of traffic, and other benefits from utilizing the forums within your niche.

Join in, and try to help people. Make posts, and build up a few friendships along the way.

Create great content

By far, the best thing that you can do to build blog traffic is to create great content for people to read. It will be slow going at first, but over time, you will gain in popularity. Write specifically to the people who want to hear what you have to say. One of the things that really frustrates me is seeing people who think they are writing great content, when all they do is pitch products, and try to sell something.

Now, doing some promotion should be a part of any good business, However, you need great content that is non sales oriented.  Your blog should be about building a relationship and a community first, and making sales second. I know it is counter intuitive to what most “experts” will tell you, but it works. The more free value that you can give away, the more money you can make.

Guest Posting on Other Popular Blogs

Guest posting on other blogs is by far one of the easiest and fastest ways to get your site noticed within the niche. Get one or two guest posts per week, and you won’t worry about traffic. You can usually get a good 200+ visitiors/day to your blog from guest posting alone.

These are just a few of  my favorite ways to build blog traffic. I will be posting more on each one later. Which ones give you the most trouble? What methods have you tried to build traffic to your blog, and what have your results been?

Everything that you listed is right, they are simple and easy to do but can be time-consuming especially forum and blog posting. And I agree with you, forum posting doesn’t get the credit that it deserves. Still today, not many people do it. Guest posting is one of my more preferred ways to get traffic, taking advantage of other people’s popularity for both of your gain, you get traffic and he gets a free article posted. It’s a win-win situation.
